IRTBA will be the leader and proactive advocate for an efficient transportation industry in Illinois.

A Year in Review: 2012 Advocacy Goal Accomplishments

  • Industry leaders promoted passing of the first transportation bill in nine years – meeting with every member or staff of the Illinois Congressional delegation
  • Provided written comments on proposed Federal Rules and Illinois legislation changes affecting transportation
  • Leadership and ELP members attended meetings with 67
  • State legislators in Springfield to advocate for transportation
  • Illinois Supreme Court heard amicus brief submitted on behalf of IRTBA member firm in a contract dispute case 
  • Continued work with Illinois Tollway on procurement reform– responsible for amendments to SB 51 to allow for more
  • efficient procurement for IDOT and Tollway
  • Met with legislators and agency heads to reduce negative
  • consequences associated with SB51 and SB351
  • Visited CBS, ABC, and NBC to promote and inform the public about Construction Work Zone Safety. Industry reps received on-air coverage on ABC evening news, an on-air Interview on CBS morning news, and President Mike Sturino was interviewed live on the Jonathan Brandmeier WGN morning drive radio show
  • Participated on the Route 53 Panel, which made the recommendation that allowed Tollway to proceed with the program
  • Participated in Prevailing wage legislative meetings
  • Promoted ‘no cure’ reform
  • Participated on Route 53 Sustainability Committee
  • IRTBA Industry Leadership was acknowledged at four transportation events by Gov. Pat Quinn
  • President Mike Sturino gave the keynote address on state and federal transportation issues to the Illinois Association of Highway Engineers
  • Hosted four in-house fundraisers for Congressmen and members of the Illinois General Assembly
