A Year in Review: 2011 Advocacy Goal Accomplishments
• Fully Fund the Capital Bill – continue meetings with state legislators
o Hosted legislative reception in Springfield attended by 49 members of the General Assembly
o Springfield Drive-down with ELP resulting in meetings with 15 state senators.
o Hosted Grassroots Breakfasts with eight state legislators.
o Worked with legislative leaders to avert threatened shutdown of IDOT work during State budget impasse.
• Funding Federal Reauthorization – continue meetings with federal legislators
o Coordinated and participated in meetings with 18 members of the Illinois Congressional delegation, including T&I Committee staff meetings, in DC in March and May.
o Hosted congressional district visits with Reps. Hultgren and Kinzinger.
o Coordinated bi-partisan press conference with Sen. Kirk, Rep. Lipinski and Rep. Hultgren.
o Industry leader quoted in Crain’s Chicago Business in support of reauthorization.
o Lead Illinois congressional delegation outreach efforts through TFIC federal affairs efforts
• Encourage Tollway construction - allow the spending of money to promote the specific the launch and the advancement of transportation programs
o Kristi Lafleur addressed members at the May General Membership Meeting and IRTBA produced a widely distributed webinar for industry on the Move Illinois Program.
o Continued dialogue with Tollway leadership through regular meetings.
o IRTBA participated Tollway Roundtable Meetings throughout the year.
o Engaged Senate President Cullerton in promoting need to advance Tollway construction programs
o Participated in Move Illinois public hearings.
o Provided written letters of support for the Move Illinois program.
o Published Letter to the Editor in Crain’s Chicago Business in support of Move Illinois.
o IRTBA President quoted in Tribune in support of Move Illinois.
o Engaged members to provide written and oral testimony at hearings and on Tollway website.
o IRTBA seated on Tollway Strategic Advisory Team and Blue Ribbon Rte. 53 Panel.
o Developed new forms friendly to industry.
o IRTBA co-chair newly formed “Lessons Learned” Committee.
• Develop a good relationship with the Quinn Administration
o Several meetings and correspondence with Governor Quinn in Springfield and Chicago.
o Ongoing relationship and dialogue with Quinn staff members.
o Hosted Governor Quinn at the September General Membership Meeting.
• Promote professionalism within IDOT
o Further developed and improved rules as they relate to SB51, diesel retro-fit, CCDD, subcontractor paperwork completion.
o Secured release of Disparity Study.
o Advocacy to Governor for IDOT Secretary, provided letter of endorsement for Acting Secretary Ann Schneider.
o Promote qualified new Director of Highways. |
