IRTBA will be the recognized authoritative public voice and credible information source for the transportation design and construction industry in Illinois.


A Year in Review: 2011 Communication Goal Accomplishments

• Continue to offer members frequent news and publications
o IRTBA Insider, Friday Facts, Convention Newsletter, Event Promotions.
o IRTBA efforts highlighted in 11 media outlets.
o IRTBA staff outreach with 10 transportation-related agencies/educational institutions.
o Organized media education for CBS (background stories).
o Organized site visit for Fox Business News at Fiala Paving.
o Organized interviews for proposed industry shutdown in July with IRTBA member firms.

• Update members on personnel changes for agencies
o Regularly inform members of new CDOT, IDOT, and Cook County agency personnel.
o Meet with new leaders: Dan Cronin; new leaders at CDOT and CTA attended P&D Conference.

• Work to provide the IRTBA Directory in electronic format
o Work in Progress; January 2012 launch.
o Record advertising revenue.

• Promote the use and education value of the IRTBA website
o Highlight important letting dates and industry news.
o Incorporated social media – 121 FaceBook followers; IRTBA LinkedIn Group formed with 55 members currently; CEO tweets; established “Move Illinois” LinkedIn Group with 41 members.
o Inform membership of committee and coop activities through regular posting of recent meeting minutes.
o Promote electronic event registration.

• Educate the membership on how to communicate with legislative personnel
o Developed Legislative Agenda and Executive Summary.
o Provide grassroots training through ARTBA and ELP sessions.
o Host briefing sessions before meetings.
o Prepare talking points and materials for all legislative meetings.
o Prepare written and provide oral testimony for specific issues – for instance, testified before the Senate Procurement Committee in Springfield for reforms to SB 51 and 351.
o Provide talking points and standardized letters for members in Action Alerts.
o Highlight these efforts in the Friday Facts.

• Centralize bid results for all agencies and share results with members
o Maintain a physical presence in Springfield to ensure certainty of results.
o Added Lake County letting results to the website.
• Continue webinars and video conferences
o Revamped Road Builder University to appeal to more members.
o Utilize video conference for IDOT Policy meetings.
o Working to develop in-house video conferencing capabilities.
