A Year in Review: 2011 Environmental Goal Accomplishments

• Continue to update members on national initiatives (CARB), emission standards
o Hosted IEPA representative at the Annual Convention.
o Hosted Diesel Emissions Symposium with ALL agency members and US EPA.
o Held 3rd Annual Meeting for Green Council.

• More advocacy on promotion of recyclables, green successes
o Created 11 “Success Stories” of industry green efforts and promote in Friday facts and through outreach to various transportation related organizations.
o Working to develop a “Waste Free Work Zone” in conjunction with the Tollway.
o Green Efforts highlighted in 14 media outlets.
o I-LAST features in two cover stories in trade magazines.
o Highlight efforts in all grassroots meetings and agency co-ops (as standing agenda item).
o IRTBA serves on Route 53 Environment and Sustainability Committee. 

• Grow Green Council members and efforts
o Green Council membership has grown from 88 firms to 200.
o Regular news and mentions in the Friday Facts.

• Continue I-LAST implementation
o Working to develop a “Speaker’s Bureau” of members willing to address the Council's of Government (COG), planning agencies and higher education audiences.
o Promoting the manual to all COGs in Winter 2012.
o Developing I-LAST website for brand recognition.
o Promote I-LAST implementation to various transportation stakeholders.

• Maintain awareness and education
o Aided CCDD rule making process with comments to IEPA and IPCB.
o Submitted written testimony to Illinois Pollution Control Board.
o Encouraged legislation changes to CCDD rules which created trailer bill.
o Applied for USGBC Leadership Award.
o Submitted TRB White Paper for January 2012 presentation.
