MESSAGE TO SPRINGFIELD: STOP IGNORING YOUR CONSTITUENTS, FIX THE ROADS
FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE
March 26, 2008
Itasca, IL- “For elected officials to continue to sit in Springfield bickering with one another while their constituents wage a daily war against mammoth potholes is ridiculous. We’re taking this message to Springfield, making sure it’s delivered loud and clear,” said Tod Faerber, President of the Illinois Road and Transportation Builders Association (IRTBA).
IRTBA today launches a statewide campaign directed at legislators and inaction on a capital program. The message is one that resonates with drivers across the state dealing with the snowiest and most dangerous winter in 29 years. Record breaking snow and freeze thaw cycles have created roadways that resemble minefields more than transportation thoroughfares.
“Illinois has waited almost ten years for Springfield to pass a road program. Unfortunately, we’ve all suffered and now our families and businesses are literally paying the price when we change blown tires and slow down and weave deep potholes,” Faerber went on to say.
IRTBA is joined by Chicago Federation of Labor, Operators Local 150, Teamsters Local 731, Electricians Local 9, and Ironworkers Local 1 on the campaign which includes print, radio, internet and grassroots efforts.
