Road Builder Charities, Inc. was created in July 2009 to provide educational funding and training programs for Illinois students. RBC supports member charities, offers scholarships to college students in transportation-related fields, and scholarships to children of fallen workers.

RBC has donated to the following member-supported organizations in 2012: Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Area Equipment Inc.'s Scholarships for Children of Employees with Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Greater Illinois Chapter, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and West Suburban Special Recreation Association, and SOS Children's Villages. RBC has also donated to the following member-supported charities in previous years: ACE Technical High School, Alpine Children's Charity, Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, Boys Town of Chicago, Engineers without Borders, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Make A Wish Foundation, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Ovarian Cancer Research Fund, Ryan Nichols' Memorial Fund, and the ARTBA Transportation Development Foundation.

Road Builder Charities has also provided academic scholarships for the 2012-13 school year to students studying Construction Management or Engineering at Bradley University (two scholarships), College of DuPage, Joliet Junior College, Northern Illinois University, University of Illinois at Chicago, and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

IRTBA also offers a $3,000 'Worker Memorial Scholarship' to a college student whose parent or legal guardian was injured or killed on a jobsite.

Major fundraising events include a Charity Auction in April, the 5K Fun Run/Walk at Convention, and the Annual Golf Outing contest proceeds.
