President’s Message

The most important issue facing our industry today is adequate and proper investment in our infrastructure in Illinois. We have earned the nickname “transportation hub of the nation” due to the road, rail, aviation and waterway systems that converge and bring both coasts together. The ability to move goods across our nation is tied directly to the state of Illinois providing safe, reliable modes of travel.

Today however, Illinois is at critical juncture. Without a dedicated, aggressive capital program, we stand to not only lose the title ‘transportation hub’, but we will no longer be a viable and sought after place for business and families to take root. The business, civic, labor and community groups must stand united and make transportation a priority for Illinois.

To that end, it is vital that we work as an industry through association involvement to promote safe and efficient transportation systems.  Our future and that of our children depend on it.  IRTBA is focused on working towards accomplishing specific goals set forth in a Strategic Plan the Board of Directors approved in late 2005 and updated in 2008. Four specific areas are outlined;

1. IRTBA will be the successful leader and advocate for stimulating increased funding at all levels for the transportation design and construction industry in Illinois.

2. IRTBA will be its members' indispensable resource for training, education, business services and positive experiences.

3. IRTBA will be the recognized authoritative public voice and credible information source for the transportation design and construction industry in Illinois.

4. IRTBA will be a proactive force for increasing the diversity within the industry.

Whether roadways, airports, bridges, waterways or public transit; the bottom line is; transportation built Illinois. The state must continue to lead the nation in innovation, safety and construction of our transportation systems.  I look forward to working with you as the IRTBA strives to accomplish these goals and continues to be the most effective force for the transportation design and construction industry.

                                                                                 Tod Faerber
