Road Builder University on the road and heading to Chicago to tour the Lake Street Bascule Bridge on Thursday, June 4, 2026. 
The Lake Street Project Team will present an overview of the bridge rehabilitation project and its relevance to Chicago. The presentation will highlight the unique movable bridge construction techniques and challenges for the project providing the visitors context and familiarity for the tour. After the presentation, the attendees and project tour team will participate in a four part tour of the bridge and project site, and the event will conclude with a reception at Randolph Tavern.

Frank "Sonny" Jaramilla 
Associate Vice President & Construction Program ManagerHNTB 

Frank “Sonny” Jaramilla, HNTB Associate Vice President, is a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois, Certified Project Management Professional (PMP), and 2018 Road Builders Emerging Leaders Alumni.  He received his bachelor’s degree Civil Engineering from Arizona State University and has more than 20 years of experience in transportation and civil engineering with working in Illinois, Arizona, and New York on complex infrastructure projects.  He is the Project Manager of the Construction Management Team for HNTB on the CDOT Lake Street Bascule Bridge Project.    

Jack Canale

Granite Construction

Jack Canale, Granite Construction Project Manager, is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois. He received his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has 15 years of experience as a general contractor on large heavy-civil infrastructure projects. Jack is currently the Project Manager of the contractor team for the CDOT Lake Street Bascule Bridge Project.

Scott Klosowski

Scott Klosowski, Lochner Resident Engineer, is a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois and Certified Project Management Professional (PMP).  He received his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois (UIUC) and has more than 20 years of experience in construction management on complex infrastructure projects.  He is the CDOT Engineer for Capital Bridge Rehabilitation projects.

Moira Kent 
Civil Engineer
Chicago Department of Transportation

Moira Kent is a civil engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a Master of Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota.  She has over 25 years of experience in construction and design management on Chicago Department of Transportation projects.  She has been the CDOT Resident Engineer or Project Manager on numerous projects including the Lake Street Bascule Bridge, the Bloomingdale Trail, Wells Street Bascule Bridge, North Avenue Bridge over the North Branch, various bridges over Chicago Union Station, the first section of Chicago Riverwalk between Michigan Avenue and State Street and bascule bridge rehabilitation along the Chicago River including Jackson, Adams and Lake Shore Drive.  In 2024, she performed the role of Acting Chief Bridge Engineer.  Since 2025, when Arsalan Khan began the role of Chief Bridge Engineer, she has retained a large role in the planning and implementation of CDOT’s Bridge Program including the Calumet River Bridge program.

Andy Mey

Benesch

Andrew Mey is a Construction Project Manager at Benesch and a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois. He earned both his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering and his master’s degree in construction engineering and management from the Illinois Institute of Technology. With 15 years of experience, Andrew began his career with a general contractor before moving into consulting, where he has managed large-scale infrastructure projects. He currently serves as the Resident Engineer for the construction management team on the CDOT Lake Street Bascule Bridge Project.

Dan Zacharski 
Resident Engineer
DB Sterlin Consultants, Inc. 

Dan Zacharski, DB Sterlin Senior Project Engineer, is a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Illinois.  He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois – Urbana/Champaign.  Dan has been working in the bridge industry for over 20 years.  He currently serves as a Project Manager under contract with the City of Chicago - Department of Bridges.  Dan works as the primary Resident Engineer overseeing the City In-House trades with daily maintenance and upkeep throughout the entire moveable and stationary bridge inventory.

Safety & Attire  

PPE Required for this event:

  • Hard Hat
  • Safety Vest
  • Closed toe boots/shoes - no flats, heels, tennis shoes, sandels, ect.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) includes specialized clothing or equipment worn to minimize exposure to hazards causing serious injuries.

Attendees are asked to provide their own PPE. If you do now own a hard hat or safety vest, please let us know and one will be provided. 

Attire: Business Casual, Jeans Acceptable.
